Red Right Ankle

  1. "Age considers; youth ventures." ~Rabindranath Tagore.

I remember when, the days were young and lasted forever

I was young too, full of bright ideas and happy instances

    That was then

    That was when

I knew what each day would hold if nothing more than an adventure

And a handful of smiles and object lesson trials

That I could climb and traverse like the rocks in Malibu canyon

I remember when love seemed like the sapphire encrusted in life’s crown

I needed only to reach up and grab for it

    And grab I did

However my hand, moist with anticipation could not grip the prize

At least not for too long

Before it and I fell haplessly to the ground

    Now

I lack luster and the energy that came so easily before

I at times have trouble mustering

And still I am the man I used to be inside

Still the bright promise of something great was my vow

I remember when the days were young and the sun seemed to shine forever

And the sky beamed eternally blue

I was young too, but I am older now

    So much older now
